JOB DESCRIPTION — GENERAL MANUFACTURING ASSOCIATE

Department: Manufacturing / Production

Position: Manufacturing Associate

Reports to: Production Supervisor / Shift Supervisor

Employment Type: Full-time

Location: Brilliant Manufacturing Facility, Ghana

Job Summary

The Manufacturing Associate supports the safe, hygienic, and efficient production of Brilliant Manufacturing (BMF) food and beverage products. The role is hands-on and may be assigned to fruit receiving and preparation, ingredient weighing, juice processing, mixing, equipment operation, filling, packaging, cleaning, material handling, or other production activities according to operational needs.

The associate is responsible for following approved recipes, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), food-safety requirements, and supervisor instructions. The role also requires accurate production records, careful product inspection, protection of product quality, and maintenance of a clean and orderly workplace.

Key Responsibilities

Production Operations

  • Carry out assigned production activities, which may include receiving, weighing, sorting, washing, cutting, inspecting, extracting, filtering, mixing, processing, filling, sealing, coding, labelling, packing, case sealing, palletizing, and staging finished products.

  • Operate designated production and packaging equipment only after receiving the required training and authorization.

  • Follow approved formulations, batch instructions, SOPs, work instructions, production schedules, and supervisor directions.

  • Measure, weigh, and stage raw materials and packaging materials accurately, and verify the correct material, quantity, lot number, and status before use.

  • Monitor operating conditions and promptly report unusual equipment behaviour, leaks, damage, contamination risks, process deviations, or unsafe conditions.

  • Assist with equipment setup, start-up, shutdown, cleaning, sanitation, changeovers, and basic operational checks.

  • Support the safe movement and proper staging of raw materials, work-in-process, packaging materials, finished products, and waste.

Quality and Food Safety

  • Comply with GMP, HACCP-based food-safety controls, hygiene rules, allergen controls where applicable, and all company quality procedures.

  • Conduct assigned in-process and visual inspections, including checks for product appearance, packaging integrity, seal quality, coding, labelling, fill level, cleanliness, and defects.

  • Immediately stop or contain work, where authorised, and notify the supervisor or Quality team when a product, material, package, or process may not meet requirements.

  • Prevent mix-ups, contamination, cross-contamination, and the unauthorised use of materials.

  • Observe line-clearance, material-status identification, traceability, and product-hold requirements.

  • Do not taste or release any product unless specifically authorised under an approved quality procedure.

Documentation and Inventory Control

  • Complete batch records, production logs, cleaning records, inspection forms, material-use records, downtime records, and other assigned documentation accurately and at the time the work is performed.

  • Record actual information clearly; never falsify, backdate, pre-complete, conceal, or alter production records improperly.

  • Maintain identification and traceability of raw materials, packaging materials, work-in-process, rework, waste, and finished products.

  • Assist with material counts and report shortages, damage, expired materials, incorrect labels, or inventory differences promptly.

Cleaning, Hygiene, and Safety

  • Maintain excellent personal hygiene and wear the required uniform and personal protective equipment correctly.

  • Clean and sanitise equipment, utensils, work surfaces, floors, drains, and production areas according to approved procedures and schedules.

  • Follow chemical-handling, machine-guarding, manual-handling, lockout/tagout, fire-safety, and emergency procedures applicable to the assigned work.

  • Report injuries, near misses, spills, breakages, pest activity, foreign-material risks, and unsafe conditions immediately.

  • Keep production areas orderly and ensure tools, cleaning items, waste, and personal belongings are controlled and stored only in designated locations.

Teamwork and Improvement

  • Work cooperatively with Production, Quality, Maintenance, Warehouse, and other departments to meet daily safety, quality, output, and waste targets.

  • Attend shift handovers, toolbox meetings, training, and performance discussions as required.

  • Support waste reduction, productivity improvement, workplace organisation, and continuous-improvement activities.

  • Be willing to rotate between trained workstations, production areas, and shifts according to operational requirements.

  • Perform other reasonable production-related duties assigned by management.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Senior High School certificate/WASSCE, technical or vocational qualification, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Ability to read, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions in English.

  • Basic numeracy sufficient for weighing, counting, recording quantities, and completing production documents.

  • Basic ability to use production displays, scanners, tablets, or computers, or willingness to learn.

Preferred Experience

  • One to three years of experience in food and beverage, pharmaceutical, medical-device, cosmetics, plastics, packaging, or another regulated manufacturing environment is preferred.

  • Previous experience with GMP, food safety, production equipment, sanitation, filling, packing, warehousing, or batch documentation is an advantage.

  • Entry-level applicants with strong discipline and the ability to complete company training may also be considered.

Required Competencies and Personal Attributes

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality.

  • Reliability, punctuality, integrity, and personal accountability.

  • Ability to follow procedures consistently and ask questions when instructions are unclear.

  • Good communication, teamwork, and respect for colleagues and supervisors.

  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn, accept feedback, and support changing production priorities.

  • Commitment to cleanliness, food safety, workplace safety, and responsible handling of company property.

  • Ability to remain focused while carrying out repetitive work in a fast-paced production environment.

Physical and Working Conditions

The employee must be able to:

  • Stand and walk for extended periods during a production shift.

  • Perform repetitive tasks and safely bend, reach, push, pull, and handle production materials.

  • Lift and carry loads of up to 20 kg, with assistance or handling equipment used when required.

  • Work in areas that may be wet, noisy, warm, cool, or refrigerated, while wearing required protective clothing and equipment.

  • Work scheduled shifts, overtime, weekends, or public holidays when production requirements reasonably demand it.

  • Work safely around fruit, food ingredients, cleaning chemicals, moving equipment, and industrial machinery.

Reasonable accommodation will be considered where applicable and consistent with the safe performance of the role.

Performance Expectations

Performance will be assessed using measures such as:

  • Compliance with safety, hygiene, GMP, food-safety, and documentation requirements.

  • Product quality and accuracy of inspections and records.

  • Output against assigned production targets.

  • Attendance, punctuality, teamwork, and conduct.

  • Proper use of materials and contribution to reducing waste, rework, downtime, and product loss.

  • Completion of required training and demonstrated competence at assigned workstations.

Authority and Escalation

The Manufacturing Associate is expected to report and escalate any suspected food-safety, quality, equipment, or workplace-safety concern immediately. No employee will be penalised for raising a genuine concern in good faith or for stopping an activity that presents an immediate and serious risk, provided the employee promptly informs the responsible supervisor.
